Effective date: September 7, 2026
Checkpoint ("the app," "we," "us") is developed by Don't Panic Games & Tech. This policy explains what information Checkpoint collects, how it's used, and the choices you have. Checkpoint is a personal game-library and backlog-tracking app — it does not run ads and does not sell or share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
This policy was drafted with the assistance of AI, based on Checkpoint's actual data practices, and reviewed by Don't Panic Games & Tech before publishing.
Account information. If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your Google account's name, email address, and profile photo, provided directly by Google. Signing in is optional — you can use Checkpoint entirely without an account, in which case none of this information is collected and your data stays only on your device.
Your game library and activity. The core of Checkpoint is the data you enter yourself: the games in your library, their status and priority, platforms and genres, play sessions you log, and the goals you set. If you're signed in, this data is stored in our cloud database (Google Firebase/Firestore) under your account so it syncs across your devices. If you're not signed in, it's stored only locally on your device (using the Hive local database) and never leaves it.
Profile photo (optional, local only). If you manually choose a profile photo from your device's photo library, that photo is stored locally on your device only — it is never uploaded to our servers. (If you sign in with Google, your Google account photo is shown instead, sourced directly from Google.)
Imported library data. If you import a game collection from a file (for example, a Gameye export), that file is read and processed entirely on your device to add games to your library. The file itself is not uploaded anywhere.
Game search data. When you search for a game to add to your library, your search text is sent to our backend (a Google Cloud Function) which queries IGDB (a third-party game database operated by Twitch/Amazon) to find matching titles, cover art, and details. We don't attach your identity to these searches beyond what's needed to prevent abuse (see App Check, below).
We use the information above to: let you track and sync your game library and play history across your devices; power features like backlog goals, pace tracking, and the "Play Next" suggestions; let you sign in and keep your data tied to your account; and send you an optional daily local reminder notification (built entirely on your device from your own library data — no server involvement).
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell your information to anyone.
Checkpoint relies on a small number of third-party services to work:
Each of these providers processes data under its own privacy policy; we don't control their practices beyond configuring them for Checkpoint's use.
Cloud-synced data is stored in Google Firebase's infrastructure, transmitted using standard encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), and access is restricted so that only your signed-in account can read or write your own library data. If you never sign in, your data never leaves your device.
Your library data is retained for as long as your account exists or until you delete it yourself within the app (Checkpoint lets you delete individual games directly). If you'd like your entire account and all associated cloud data deleted, contact us at the email below and we'll delete it. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data (including anything not signed in and synced), but does not by itself delete cloud data tied to a signed-in account — for that, use the deletion request below.
We complete verified account-deletion requests within 30 days, and we don't retain backup copies beyond that period. Full details and step-by-step instructions for requesting deletion are available on our account deletion page.
Checkpoint is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at the email below and we'll delete it.
We may update this policy as Checkpoint's features change. We'll update the effective date above when we do. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.

I am an experienced professional with over 10 years of automotive and IT customer service and support. I have excellent troubleshooting skills, have participated in process improvement practices and have been trained to provide world-class customer-focused service both in person and via phone.
My main goal is to help serve my community by offering services that people need for less than a big box store would while also, in my opinion, providing a better end product. I work hard to give every device I touch back to the owner in better condition than it was in when I received it.
